At the Port Perry Dance Academy we pride ourselves on offering our community a wide spectrum of dance styles and disciplines.  We offer a balanced approach to training in the arts that allows individuals at every level of mastery to learn and grow their skills while having fun and enjoying their friends. Music

5 years and up. This Royal Conservatory curriculum focuses on piano and keyboard techniques.  It includes musical theory, develops musicianship and playing skills.

Ballet & Pointe

Creative JK, SK and Ballet Programs 3-4 years. Introduces young dancers to the basics where the focus is on music, movement, creative expression and development of coordination. A place to explore and have fun!

 

Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet 5-7 years. Further develops the basics first introduced in Creative Ballet. Dancers will further enhance abilities in rhythm, movement, creativity and coordination.

 

R.A.D. Ballet, Grades I-VIII 7 years and up. The Royal Academy of Dance is the largest examining and training body for classical ballet in the world. The Grade Syllabus has been devised with great care by the R.A.D. It progresses a child in stages, demanding no more of a young body than it can easily cope with. The R.A.D.’s world-renowned examinations offer students challenge and a greater sense of achievement. Syllabus includes Barre, Demi-pointe and Character studies.

 

R.A.D. Ballet, Majors & Pointe 11 years and up. For the experienced and more serious student interested in studying ballet with the possibility of pursuing a career in dance performance or teaching. Three classes a week, we concentrate on technique, strength and artistry. Syllabus includes Barre, demi-pointe and Pointe.

CDTA and ADAPT Tap

5 years and up. Our Tap Dance program allows students to further develop their coordination and toe-tapping rhythm. Basic and advanced tempos are built upon to create combinations and routines to both contemporary music and classic big band sounds.

CDTA, ADAPT and Freestyle/Street Jazz

5 years and up. Encourages vitality and enthusiasm for dance through exciting dance routines and limbering exercises to high-energy contemporary music.

CDTA  Acro

6 years and up. The athleticism of  tumbling and flexibility routines combined with the artistry of jazz dance typified by performances seen on Cirque du Soleil. 

Hip Hop

9 years and up. Get in on the hottest trends in music and dance as seen on TV, stage and dance clubs while getting a great work out!

Latin/Ballroom

16 years & up. For everyone! Learn to Salsa, Merengue, Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Waltz, Fox Trot or Swing.  Couples preferred.

Musical Theatre

6 years and up. Shine on stage as a well-rounded actor or musical theatre performer. Further enhance dance abilities with professional instruction in acting and musical theatre performance skills  Musical theatre participants lip-synch lyrics to accompanying songs.

Voice

This Royal Conservatory program focuses on vocal skills, ear training, the mechanics of effective breathing and voice projection.

Adult Programs

Daytime and evening classes in Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pilates, Aerobics and Yoga.

Fun Factory & Intro To Dance

4 to 8 years. An opportunity for young children to sample a variety of movement classes including acro, ballet, jazz, tap and Hip Hop. Limited enrolment.

Teacher Training Program

Students can now pursue their teaching credentials in Ballet (RAD), Jazz & Tap (CDTA) and Acro (BATD) at the Academy. This program offers the opportunity for serious dancers to obtain the necessary credentials so they may teach at any level any where in the world.

Pilates

The world-renowned Pilates exercise program is well known for its ability to assist in producing long lean muscles and a stronger, sleeker physique. Its originator, Joseph Pilates said “in ten sessions you’ll feel the difference. In twenty sessions, you’ll see the difference, and in thirty sessions, you’ll have a new body”.

Acting

This course encourages students to actively explore dramatic forms and tech-niques using their own ideas as well as sources selected from a wide range of authors and genres. Learning outcomes will include identifying and using the principles of space, time, voice and movement in creating, sustaining and communicating authentic roles within drama.

Lyrical and Contemporary Jazz

A fusion of ballet and jazz techniques focusing on soft and flowing movements that interpret and portray the lyrical and emotional content of the accompanying music.

Triple Threat

Welcome to Broadway!  Participants in this popular program are trained in dance choreography and vocal presentation of  musical classics and contemporary material.  Classes involve vocal rehearsals and dance choereography. Participants use their own voices to sing the lyrics of the accompanying song.

Toddler Time

This Pre-School syllabus is designed by the RAD to  enable younger children to participate in dance activities that are fun, develpmentally appropriate and help build independence and encourage both exploration and social interaction. An excellent pre-cursor to the Creative Dance level.
